Abu Dhabi Ports adopts low-orbit satellite communication services in its international operations
Low-orbit satellite communication services will enable high-speed, low-latency communication/WAM

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – Abu Dhabi Ports Group announced the start of adopting low-orbit satellite communication services across its fleet of ships, and throughout its operational operations at its stations spread around the world.

This service represents a qualitative shift in the group’s digital transformation journey.

It will contribute to providing ships with instant data and ensure continuous and reliable communication with ports and stations.

In addition to increasing operational efficiency and achieving fuel savings.

Implementation of the project began across the Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s business portfolio this month.

This comes after the group signed a series of agreements with a number of the world’s leading low-orbit satellite service providers to provide these services.

270 Ships

The first phase of implementation has begun, covering several ships in the group’s fleet of 270 ships.

Low-orbit satellite communication services will enable high-speed, low-latency communication.

Ensuring timely ship tracking, predictive maintenance, and optimizing sailing routes more effectively than ever before.

Infrastructure supported by this type of service will also form a fundamental pillar for artificial intelligence applications in the maritime sector.

Including planning trips more intelligently, improving fuel consumption, and enhancing monitoring of safety standards.

This opens new horizons for achieving operational efficiency that was not previously possible under traditional restrictions on means of communication.

At the port level, the scope of implementation will extend to include the group’s network of terminals, which includes 34 terminals distributed in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and Southwest Asia.

This technology will provide uninterrupted communications and ensure business continuity.

Especially in remote locations and during complex operations.

As well as strengthening the monitoring of goods and shipments, coordinating emergency response operations, and improving the reliability of services provided.

This initiative comes as part of the group’s efforts to accelerate the digital transformation process.

Which includes smart port platforms, integrated supply chain systems, and Internet of Things applications.

Relying primarily on low-orbit satellite communication services, these systems will provide detailed, real-time insights and advanced levels of automation across the group’s operations around the world.
