Abyan, Yemen – In a strategic move to promote clean energy and alleviate the suffering of citizens, President Aidarus Qasim al-Zubaidi, head of the Southern Transitional Council, laid the foundation stone for a solar power plant project in Abyan Governorate on Wednesday. The plant will have a production capacity of 30 megawatts. This project is generously supported by the United Arab Emirates.

A Strategic Boost to the Electricity System

During the groundbreaking ceremony, President Al-Zubaidi emphasized that this project represents a vital strategic boost to the electricity system in the governorate. It aims directly to provide sustainable power to thousands of homes and vital facilities in Abyan, reducing the overall reliance on traditional fuels (diesel and fuel oil) for power generation, thus alleviating significant financial burdens. Furthermore, it strengthens the infrastructure and service environment, contributing to economic stability in the governorate.

Praise for Emirati Support

President Al-Zubaidi commended the leading role of the United Arab Emirates and its long-standing strategic partnership with southern Yemen. He noted that this project is an extension of a series of successful projects implemented by the UAE in the renewable energy sector. These projects have been carried out in the governorates of Aden, Lahj, Shabwa, and Hadramawt, as well as in Mocha, Hays, and Khokha.

Popular Celebration and Official Attendance

The opening ceremony was met with a massive popular reception from the people of Abyan Governorate, who expressed their great satisfaction with this project, which addresses their basic needs. A number of prominent local and military leaders also attended the ceremony. Extensive media coverage documented the moment the foundation stone was laid, marking the beginning of work on this development project.

Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly improve the level of services provided to the citizens of Abyan. It will also shift the governorate towards relying on environmentally friendly solutions in the energy sector.
