Abu Dhabi, UAE – A new strategic shipping service linking Jebel Ali Port in the United Arab Emirates to Berbera Port in Somaliland has officially commenced operations.

Highlights
  • Connecting Ethiopia and reducing bottlenecks
  • Modern infrastructure in Berbera

This is according to what was reported by the Somali News Agency (ABA) today, Friday.

The new Jebel Ali-Berbera service, launched by DP World,

It aims to strengthen trade ties between the Arab Gulf states and East Africa,

By providing a faster sea route in Somaliland, a region separate from Somalia.

Connecting Ethiopia and reducing bottlenecks

The service provides additional connectivity to major coastal cities,

through scheduled stops in Aden and Djibouti,

Supporting greater access to markets across the Horn of Africa region.

This new route is expected to connect the port of Berbera

with important domestic destinations such as Ethiopia,

This provides an alternative to traditional logistics chains,

Which relies heavily on the port of Djibouti and long-distance land transport.

The route also supports more predictable transit times and reduces exposure to regional bottlenecks.

Modern infrastructure in Berbera

The launch of the service is supported by the improved infrastructure of the Berbera Port wharf,

which includes a 1,050-metre quay,

And an additional 400-meter-long quay capable of handling giant Triple E vessels.

Berbera is home to the most modern container terminal in the region,

as well as a special economic zone (BSEZ),

Specifically designed to attract foreign investment and support long-term industrial growth in the region.
